The Min­istry of Health’s ac­cel­er­at­ed mass vac­ci­na­tion pro­gramme will be­gin to­day, start­ing with mem­bers of the food and bev­er­age sec­tor, Min­is­ter of Health Ter­rence Deyals­ingh said yes­ter­day.

This ramped-up pro­gramme is made pos­si­ble by the 800,000 dos­es of Sinopharm re­ceived yes­ter­day. The ship­ment of the World Health Or­gan­i­sa­tion (WHO) vac­cine will al­low 400,000 peo­ple to be in­oc­u­lat­ed.

He said the pro­gramme will not ac­com­mo­date walk-ins but will in­stead use a data­base of in­di­vid­u­als col­lect­ed from var­i­ous in­dus­tries as is cur­rent­ly be­ing done.

“We are deep­en­ing that now with the food and bev­er­age in­dus­try, through the cham­bers of com­merce to bring in re­tail, so every­one is on board pro­vid­ing us with the names,” he said.

He al­so list­ed sev­er­al oth­er en­ti­ties that will be sub­mit­ting names for vac­ci­na­tion

He said the goal is to vac­ci­nate be­tween 20,000 and 25,000 peo­ple per day us­ing all the health cen­tres in the coun­try, the six mass vac­ci­na­tion sites and pri­vate sec­tor part­ner­ships.
